Frequently Asked Questions
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) lets you photograph pages of notes, textbooks, or handwritten vocabulary lists. ASHapp's AI scans the image and automatically creates multiple flashcard concepts from the text — not just one word at a time like other apps. It's exclusive to the Pioneer plan. Images are temporarily processed by Microsoft Azure Document Intelligence and are not stored after text extraction.
Instead of manually adding every concept, you can ask the AI to generate a whole collection for you on any topic — vocabulary sets, grammar concepts, historical facts, etc. Starter gets 1 generation as a lifetime trial. Achiever gets 3 requests per month (up to 100 concepts each), while Pioneer gets 100 per month (up to 300 concepts each). Content is generated via GPT-4 and filtered for safety and relevance.
AI Context enriches a flashcard with example sentences, usage notes, and explanations to help you understand a concept in context — not just its definition. AI Related Words shows synonyms, antonyms, and semantically similar words to deepen your understanding and expand your vocabulary network. Both are monthly request limits that reset each calendar month.

Yes! You can change your subscription at any time from within the app under Profile / Account Settings. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period. The Starter plan is always available as the default minimum — you can never be left with nothing.
Each time you ask the AI to generate a visual mnemonic image for a flashcard concept, one credit is used. Starter users get 3 images as a one-time lifetime allowance to try the feature. Achiever and Pioneer users receive monthly credits that reset on the first of each month. Images are generated with Google Gemini image models and stored in your account on our secure AWS infrastructure.

- Multilingual collections. One collection, up to 4 languages at once. Quizlet is two-sided term/definition only.
- Edit one concept. Change a single card without touching the rest of the set. Quizlet rewrites the entire set on every save.
- Typo tolerance. Fuzzy matching accepts minor spelling errors. Quizlet requires exact matches.
- Voice Mode. Speak your answers; graded instantly via Whisper AI (Pioneer plan). Quizlet has no native voice-answer mode.
ASHapp's Typing Mode uses intelligent fuzzy matching (Levenshtein distance) to grade your answers. Minor typos, missing accents, or small spelling variations are accepted as correct — the app tests whether you know the concept, not whether you can type perfectly. This makes it forgiving enough for daily practice while still requiring genuine knowledge of the answer.
Voice Mode lets you speak your answers out loud instead of typing them. Powered by OpenAI Whisper speech recognition, it listens to what you say, transcribes it, and compares it against the correct answer with the same smart fuzzy-matching used in Typing Mode. This trains both active recall and pronunciation simultaneously — invaluable for language learners who want to practise speaking, not just reading. It is exclusive to the Pioneer plan (800 transcriptions per month), and works for any language your collection contains.
If you downgrade, you keep all data you've created — you simply lose access to features above your new plan's limits. If you delete your account, all data is permanently and immediately deleted from our systems. Only anonymised system logs (no personal data) are retained for up to 90 days for technical debugging purposes.
